Maya Yoshida wants Southampton stay but no talks as yet

Maya Yoshida reveals that he wants to stay at Southampton, but has not been contacted by the club yet regarding a new deal.

Maya Yoshida has revealed that he wants to remain at Southampton, but has claimed that he is yet to hear from the club regarding contract negotiations.

The 26-year-old's contract will expire at the end of the season, but his long-term future is unclear given that he has fallen behind Toby Alderweireld in defence.

"I don't know if the club wants me or not, but I will focus on playing football, because December is a very, very important time for us," the Daily Echo quotes Yoshida as saying. "It's not my job. The contract is my agent's job, so everything depends on them."

Yoshida has been a Saints player since 2012.
