Michel only took charge at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan 11 months ago, but he was dismissed on Monday morning after overseeing five defeats in seven La Liga games.
Emery, 41, who was sacked by Spartak Moscow in November, has agreed to replace Michel and has signed a contract until the end of next season.
Emery will be in the dugout when Sevilla take on Real Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
