Roman Neustadter scored a late winner as Schalke 04 came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over SC Paderborn this evening.
Paderborn took charge of the game in the early stages, with Stefan Kutschke heading just over the crossbar before Rafa struck the post with a powerful strike.
An extended spell of home pressure eventually brought the first goal as Kaan Ayhan inadvertently put the ball into his own net as he looked to clear Kutschke's dangerous cross.
However, Schalke managed to get back into the game before the break when Atsuto Uchida's cross was cleared to the feet of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who finished calmly to cancel out Paderborn's opener.
Roberto Di Matteo's side seemed to grow in confidence after the interval, with only a strong hand from Lukas Kruse preventing Marco Hoger from finding the back of the net with a powerful volley.
Chances became more rare as the second half progressed as both teams enjoyed spells on top without threatening to go ahead.
There would be a late twist though, as Schalke secured the points with 12 minutes remaining when Roman Neudstadter darted to the near post to head home the winner from a Christian Fuchs cross.
