Christian Fuchs: 'Steaua Bucuresti draw doesn't change much'

Christian Fuchs insists that Schalke 04 would have had to beat Basel anyway, so the 0-0 draw against Steaua was not important.

Schalke 04 midfielder Christian Fuchs has insisted that the disappointing 0-0 draw away to Steaua Bucuresti in Group E of the Champions League on Tuesday night will not change how they approach their next game.

The result left the German side in third and requiring a win in their next game against Basel, but Fuchs said that they would still have targeted a victory whether they were above or below the Swiss side in the group.

"It is disappointing but nothing has really changed," Fuchs told UEFA.com. "Even with a victory we would only have been one point ahead of Basel so we would still have needed to beat them in Gelsenkirchen. We know we have to win.

"We won in Basel 1-0 and nobody thought we would do that so I am pretty confident. With our fans behind us it will be a good atmosphere. They always push us to give more and more, so I am looking forward to the match.

"Tonight's game could have ended either way – we could have won, we could have lost, so a draw is okay."

Schalke are third with seven points, behind Chelsea on nine and Basel on eight.
