Ian Harte wants Republic of Ireland call-up

Ian Harte wants another call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

Reading defender Ian Harte has said that he would love to be called upon for his national side once again.

The 34-year-old, who hasn't played for the Republic of Ireland in five years, has also criticised some of Giovanni Trapattoni's decision as manager of the national team.

"I played pretty well last year as well. The manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, did not come and get me then," said Harte.

"It would be nice for a shout [now] but I don't think it will happen. I was speaking to a few of the players and they said he did not realise I was Irish even though I have played 67 times, scored 11 goals and am the second leading scorer in the squad.

"It would be nice for a shout but I don't think it will happen. 'I didn't realise he was Irish?' You have just got laugh about it."

Harte is also unhappy about the lack of Irish-born players in the squad, with just seven players who were born in the country expected to be on the plane to Euro 2012.

"I am Irish as well and there are a lot of players in the Irish squad that are not even Irish," he added.

"It just show these foreign manager don't come across and watch games or do their research."

Harte was named in the PFA Championship team of the year last week after earning promotion to the Premier League with Reading.
