Reading 'to sign John O'Shea on one-year deal'

Reading reportedly close in on former Manchester United defender John O'Shea.

Reading are reportedly close to signing veteran defender John O'Shea from Sunderland.

The former Manchester United star is on the verge of signing a one-year deal with the Royals, according to The Reading Chronicle.

O'Shea is expected to leave Sunderland this summer following their relegation to League One, ending his seven-year spell in the North-East.

Reading boss Paul Clement is thought to be keen to overhaul his defence, with reports elsewhere linking the Royals with Portsmouth defender Matt Clarke.

The club also faces the possibility of losing centre-back Liam Moore amid interest from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
