Rangers ease to comfortable win against Raith Rovers

A brace from Nicky Law and strikes from Nicky Clark and Haris Vuckic guide Rangers to a comfortable 4-0 win over Raith Rovers in their Scottish Championship clash.

Rangers maintained their push to earn second place in the Scottish Championship with a comfortable 4-0 win over Raith Rovers at Ibrox.

The home side took the lead in the sixth minute when Nicky Law raided down the right flank and lifted the ball into the box for the run of Nicky Clark to head past Kevin Cuthbert.

Rangers doubled their advantage in the 27th minute as Haris Vuckic collected the ball down the right wing and cut back infield onto his left foot before drilling the ball into the back of the net.

The visitors almost got a goal back when Lewis Vaughan was brought down on the edge of the area and a free kick was awarded. Ryan Conroy took the set piece but his strike was well beaten away by Cammy Bell and the ball was hacked to safety by the Gers defence.

In the second half, Rangers pushed to kill the game off and Clark did well to find the run of Lee Wallace down the left. The defender tried an ambitious effort from distance, but it sailed over the crossbar.

Rovers almost found a way back into the match when a mistake at the back allowed Vaughan to latch onto the loose ball in the penalty area, but his first-time shot went wide of the post.

Stuart McCall's men put the game beyond the reach of Raith when they netted their third goal of the afternoon with a well worked move as Tom Walsh and Clark exchanged passes before the latter released the run of Law, who fired past Cuthbert.

Rangers pushed for a fourth goal late in the game but Cuthbert kept the scoreline down with two excellent saves to deny Vuckic then Walsh.

However, he was powerless to stop Law from grabbing his second of the match as he curled an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to seal the three points for the Gers.
