Charlie Austin relishing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink link-up at Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin admits that it "would be nice to work" with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who is the strong favourite to take over at Loftus Road.

Charlie Austin has admitted that he is relishing the chance to link up with a former goalscoring great when Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink takes over at Queens Park Rangers.

The Dutchman is expected to be named as the Hoops' new manager at some stage on Friday, having been granted permission to hold talks with the club by current side Burton Albion.

QPR have finally found some momentum over the past week thanks to two wins on the bounce, including a late 1-0 victory over Reading on Thursday evening in what is likely to be interim boss Neil Warnock's last game in charge.

Austin is confident that finishing inside the top six is now an achievable target under Hasselbaink, having clawed themselves to within two points of the playoff zone.

"It would be nice to work with a former forward but the main thing is we get someone to stabilise the club," the Evening Standard quotes him as saying.

"We have got stability in the squad and we showed that in the performances since Neil Warnock took over. But we need [Hasselbaink] to come in now and help push us up the league because that's what we want.

"Can we reach the playoffs this season? I don't see why not - look at the squad we've got. We need to work as hard as the last six weeks and who knows what will happen come May."

Warnock has also backed Hasselbaink for success at Loftus Road, claiming that the ex-Chelsea striker can take the West London outfit up another level.
