Manuel Jose: 'Cristiano Ronaldo didn't believe in Portugal'

Portugal's early World Cup exit was borne out of Cristiano Ronaldo not trusting his teammates, according to Manuel Jose.

Former Benfica coach Manuel Jose has accused Cristiano Ronaldo of not trusting his teammates during Portugal's dismal World Cup campaign.

A crushing 4-0 defeat to Germany appeared to set the tone for Portugal's tournament as Paulo Bento's side failed to reach the last 16 of the competition.

"Portugal have been carrying the 'world's best' like a diamond ring that we never had," he told TSF Radio. "The other players were treated like subordinates. Completely."

"He is a fantastic player, but every time he speaks he comes out with a blunder.

"He ended up saying that he never believed in the team. If he does not believe in the team, then he doesn't believe in his teammates."

Germany and USA will represent Group G in the second round.
