Port Vale produce second-half comeback to beat Plymouth Argyle in FA Cup

Port Vale knock Plymouth Argyle out of the FA Cup with a 3-2 comeback win away from home.

Port Vale have produced a second-half comeback to beat Plymouth Argyle 3-2 in their FA Cup third-round replay this evening.

Argyle took their first meaningful opportunity of the match to go 1-0 up when Andres Gurrieri got onto the end of Lewis Alessandra's cross to head home into the centre of goal.

Durrell Berry did his best to extend Plymouth's lead when he unleashed a powerful 35-yard effort, which flew wide of the post.

Reuben Reid was next to test the Port Vale keeper as he tried to convert from close range, but Jake Cole got down to his right to make the save.

Jordan Hugill equalised for Port Vale with a right-footed shot from outside the box. However, Conor Hourihane put Argyle back in front only a few minutes later to give the hosts a 2-1 half-time lead.

Port Vale came out strongest in the early stages of the second half as Chris Lines had a shot on goal saved, before Hugill headed his attempt straight into the arms of the keeper.

However, their early pressure soon paid off when Jennison Myrie-Williams swung a ball into the danger-zone, allowing Ben Williamson to steal in and draw things level.

The Vale comeback was complete when Myrie-Williams nailed home a left-footed shot from the centre of the box having been played in by Tom Pope from midfield.
