Oxford United come from behind to reach third round of FA Cup

Oxford United come from behind to beat Wrexham in the FA Cup, setting up a meeting with Charlton Athletic in the third round.

Oxford United scored two second-half goals in as many minutes to book their place in the third round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win over Wrexham this evening.

The visitors almost took the lead in the 20th minute when Matt Bevans's long throw was flicked on to Johnny Mullins, but his strike was well tipped over the crossbar by Andy Coughlin.

It was the hosts who got the opening goal of the game just before the half-hour mark when Joe Clarke hammered home a cross from the left side.

Oxford were back level 10 minutes after the break, however, when Dave Kitson knocked the ball wide to James Constable, who fired his shot past Coughlin.

The comeback was complete just two minutes later when another long throw caused panic in the Wrexham box, allowing Ryan Williams to nod his side into the lead.

Jay Harris almost provided a spectacular equaliser for Wrexham when he let fly from long range, but his effort swung just past the far post.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Oxford held out for the win, setting up a third-round meeting with Charlton Athletic.
