Two-goal Papiss Cisse rescues Newcastle United

Papiss Cisse scores twice to give Newcastle United a 2-2 draw away to Swansea City in the Premier League.

Papiss Cisse struck twice to give Newcastle United a 2-2 draw away to Swansea City in the Premier League this afternoon.

The striker cancelled out efforts from Wilfried Bony and Wayne Routledge in each half to give Alan Pardew's struggling side a share of the spoils at the Liberty Stadium.

Bony, who had returned to the side after serving a suspension, scored the opener on 17 minutes when he took a touch on the edge of the box before slotting past Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal.

Jonjo Shelvey had a good chance just after the half-hour mark when he sent a shot over the bar after receiving the ball on the edge of the box.

Bony almost had his second of the afternoon towards the end of the half, but his well-struck volley was saved by Krul.

With the first half petering out, Pardew's men got themselves back in it and it was Papiss Cisse who struck with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Gabriel Obertan did well out wide to carve open the chance for his teammate and the Senegalese striker flicked the ball beyond the Swansea keeper to even things up.

The Swans grabbed their second of the afternoon five minutes after the restart, with Sigurdsson heavily involved once more.

The Icelandic playmaker threaded a through-ball to Routledge and the ex-Newcastle winger made no mistake with a composed finish.

Sigurdsson then combined well with Bony and the former almost made it 3-1 when he fired over from a tight angle, before Bony was thwarted by Krul's save.

Cisse then grabbed his second of the afternoon to rescue his side once more when he got on the end of Sammy Ameobi's cross with 15 minutes remaining.
