The spoils were shared between Newcastle United and Hull City this afternoon following a 2-2 draw at St James' Park.

Goals from Nikica Jelavic and Mohamed Diame gave Hull a two-goal lead, but the visitors were unable to hold on as Newcastle struck back.

Substitute Papiss Cisse bagged a brace in the final 17 minutes to rescue a point for his side which lifts them off the foot of the table.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during an entertaining 90 minutes.

NEWCASTLE

Goal

Tim Krul: Was largely untested in the first half, only being called into action to collect routine crosses. Could do little to stop either of Hull's strikes. (7/10)

Defence

Daryl Janmaat: Loves powering forward down the right, but often leaves huge gaps at the back for opposition strikers to charge into. (7/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Conceded twice, but Coloccini got the better of the Hull's attacking players on a few occassions, forcing them out wide before winning the ball. (7/10)

Mike Williamson: Did well to pick out Emmanuel Riviere inside the box just short of the hour with a composed pass. Nikica Jelavic often won the duo's aerial battles. (7/10)

Paul Dummett: Not as strong going forward e as Janmaat on the opposite side, but was solid enough throughout nonetheless. (7/10)

Midfield

Jack Colback: Offered great support around the edge of the box as he looked to link midfield and attack. Was unlucky not to score in first half after timing his run to perfection before testing Allan McGregor. (8/10)

Chieck Tiote: Can be happy with his performance before limping off late on, although he was ultimately at fault for Hull's second goal after a sloppy pass in midfield was pounced on. (7/10)

Remy Cabella: A profligate afternoon for the summer recruit, who was played in on a couple of occasions in the first half before squandering his opportunities. (6/10)

Moussa Sissoko: Provided some impressive box-to-box running, and was causing Hull problems in the first 45 minutes in particular with his drives down the right. (8/10)

Attack

Yoan Gouffran: Set up Cisse's late equaliser, yet that aside the Frenchman had a very quiet afternoon at St James' Park. (6/10)

Emmanuel Riviere: For Riviere, read Cabella. Like his teammate, the striker was often the man in the best positions when in possession but ultimately failed to make the most of openings. Still adapting to a new league, it seems. (6/10)

Substitutes

Papiss Cisse: Despite being on the field for a little over 20 minutes, Cisse scored two goals which may very well have saved his manager's job. Huge player for the Magpies who delivered when he needed to. (9/10)

Ayoze Perez: Was on the field for just two minutes, in which time Newcastle were tasked with defending a dangerous corner. (5/10)

Sammy Ameobi: Not given enough time to make an impact in his 10 minutes or so on the field. The Magpies may need more diverse attacking options as the season progresses, though. (5/10)

HULL

Goal

Allan McGregor: Was forced into a few big saves, but questions will be asked over whether or not he could have done better to keep out Cisse's opening goal at his near post. (7/10)

Defence

Ahmed Elmohamady: No stranger to getting forward thanks to his previous wing-back role, the Egypt international managed to pick out Jelavic for Hull's opener. (8/10)

Curtis Davies: He had half a chance to win the game at the death for his side which was squandered, and will be annoyed to have conceded twice late on (7/10)

Michael Dawson: With 20 minutes to go it was looking like a very good afternoon for the former Tottenham Hotspur man, but that all changed thanks to a certain Mr. Cisse. (7/10)

Andrew Robertson: Capitalised on gaps left at the back by opposite number Janmaat's forward runs. Made the most of openings by picking out Jelavic on a couple of occasions. (8/10)

Midfield

Jake Livermore: Professional enough performance, but Livermore can certainly offer more than he showed in the first half here. (7/10)

Tom Huddlestone: Like his central midfield teammate, Huddlestone can provide more attacking intent based on this showing. Still dictated play from deep when given time on the ball. (7/10)

Mohamed Diame: Was key to leading Hull's counter-attacks, and also scored a goal to rival any other this season with his long-range drive on 68 minutes. (8/10)

Stephen Quinn: Given the licence to roam forward and help support the front two, but his miss on the hour mark really was a shocker which should have been converted. (6/10)

Attack

Nikica Jelavic: It is now four shots, three goals for the Croatia international in the Premier League this season. His acrobatic finish also lifts him up to second in Hull's all-time top-scorer list in the top flight. (8/10)

Abel Hernandez: Often came out second best against Coloccini. Could not match his debut goal against West Ham United last time out. (6/10)

Substitutes

Liam Rosenior: Introduced in the dying minutes to replace Robertson. Little time to make any difference down the left. (5/10)

David Meyler: Certainly far less controversial than his last visit to St James' Park, Meyler had just 10 minutes on the pitch. (6/10)

Sone Aluko: Introduced with his side two goals to the good, left the field with the scores tied at 2-2. Not great. (6/10)
