Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez warns his side that they cannot afford to make the same mistakes week after week if they are to survive in the Premier League.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has warned his side that they cannot afford to keep making the same mistakes if they are to survive in the Premier League this season.

The Magpies fell to a late 3-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City this evening courtesy of an 86th-minute own goal from Ayoze Perez, extending their winless run to seven Premier League games.

Newcastle have picked up only one point from the 21 on offer during that time, leaving them just two points clear of the relegation zone, and Benitez admitted that something needs to change.

"[Leicester's third goal] was another mistake. We have to learn and have more experience and manage it better. We have seen two or three situations with the same kind of goals. It is sometimes a lack of experience," the Spaniard told BBC Sport.

"The way we concede, for confidence, it is difficult but we have to keep going. We have to improve the things we are not doing well at the moment. These kind of mistakes, you cannot make in the Premier League and we are doing it week in, week out.

"I said it could be like this. We have to understand that the only way [to improve the situation] is to work harder and not to make these kind of mistakes. We have to learn and have to have more experience to manage the time that we do things. We work very hard. We have a young group of players, they do their best."

The defeat means that Benitez has now lost three Premier League home games in a row for the first time in his managerial career.
