Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Loic Remy scored the only goal of the game as Marseille beat Nancy 1-0 at the Stade Velodrome tonight.
The hosts could have taken the lead before Remy's 31st-minute strike but both Mathieu Valbuena and Andre Pierre Gignac wasted good early chances.
French international winger Valbuena shot off target from just inside the box before compatriot Gignac saw his effort saved well by Guy Ndy.
Marseille did take the lead soon after though, with Valbuena playing a pivotal part in the goal as he played in Remy to slot home on 34 minutes.
Former Bolton Wanderers defender Sebastien Puygrenier had an opportunity to equalise for the visitors late on but he was denied by goalkeeper Steven Mandanda.
Didier Deschamps's side climb above their opponents into 10th with the result.
