Stade Rennais goalkeeper Benoit Costil has confirmed that his agent held talks with Marseille president Vincent Labrune about a possible move to Stade Velodrome in the summer.
Costil was speculated to be one of a number of goalkeepers being monitored by Marseille as uncertainty over the future of goalkeeper Steve Mandanda rumbled on.
However, Mandanda ultimately stayed at the club as Costil claims that this led to talks over his own potential move breaking down.
He told BeIN Sports: "What I can say is that there were contacts with Mr Labrune and my agent, but the discussion did not go very far because Mandanda stayed."
Costil has made 156 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes since joining from Sedan in 2011.
