Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox is still hopeful of keeping Matt Green at the club this summer.

Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox has revealed that he is hopeful of keeping Matt Green at the One Call Stadium this summer.

The 26-year-old, who scored 25 goals for the club last season, is currently out of contract, with a number of Championship outfits believed to be interested in his services.

However, Cox has not given up hope of keeping the forward at the club this summer.

"He is ambitious and I'm not going to have a go at someone for that," Cox told the club's official website.

"I spoke to him recently and I'd love him to sign a new deal here, everyone knows that. We have a good relationship and I would like to think that if the big boys decide not to offer him anything, he would want to come back here and play for us."

Green had a trial with Birmingham City earlier in the summer.
