League Two roundup: Wycombe Wanderers lose but stay top

Sports Mole rounds up all the action from League One where Wycombe Wanderers lose at the hands of Exeter City but remain top of the table.

Wycombe Wanderers remain top of the League Two table despite losing 2-1 away at midtable Exeter City this evening.

Peter Murphy put the league leaders ahead after just seven minutes, but Exeter responded through David Wheeler and Scott Bennett either side of half time to condemn Gareth Ainsworth's side to their first league defeat in 10 games.

Bury slipped to fourth after being beaten 5-0 by Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow thanks to Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro's hat-trick, while Burton Albion move into second spot after holding on to beat Carlisle United 4-3 in a rollercoaster clash at Brunton Park thanks to first-half goals from Damian McCrory, Lee Bell, Jacob Blyth and Alex MacDonald.

Luton Town moved into the third automatic promotion spot courtesy of a comfortable 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, while Jack Redshaw's equaliser deep into injury time against York City moves Morecambe into a playoff position.

At the other of the table, Tranmere Rovers earned a precious point with a 0-0 draw against Mansfield Town but remain bottom, and Hartlepool United slip into the drop zone after going down 3-1 at Accrington Stanley.

Elsewhere, two goals in two minutes from Danny Hylton and a strike from Alfie Potter gave Oxford United a 3-1 win over Northampton Town that moves Michael Appleton's side away from danger.

Portsmouth recorded their first league win in six games in a five-goal thriller against Stevenage, and a late Mark Byrne goal gave Newport County three points that moves them up to eighth.

Cheltenham Town climbed to ninth as a Matthew Richards strike and a Josh Coulson own goal gave them a 2-1 win over Cambridge United, while AFC Wimbledon's clash with Plymouth Argyle finished goalless.
