PSV Eindhoven boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed that Cody Gakpo could leave the club in the January transfer window, with Manchester United interested in the winger.

PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted that Cody Gakpo could leave the Dutch club in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old is one of the most in-demand players in Europe and almost sealed a £25m move to Manchester United in the summer, with the deal breaking down in the final days of the window.

Now, after his three goals in five matches at the World Cup, Van Nistelrooy confirmed to Voetbal International that the club will not stand in the player's way if a big-money offer comes in January.

"If I have the choice, I prefer [Gakpo to leave in] the summer, but it can also be now. You just know there comes a time when you can't say no," he told reporters.

The Red Devils face competition from Real Madrid, Arsenal and Newcastle United for the signature of the 14-cap international.

The winger has scored 13 goals and assisted 17 in 24 matches in all competitions, as PSV sit third in the Eredivisie, three points off leaders Feyenoord.
