Manchester United reportedly decide to trigger the 12-month option in David de Gea's contract, with the Spaniard's deal now expiring in 2020.

Manchester United have reportedly triggered their 12-month option in the contract of goalkeeper David de Gea.

The 28-year-old has spent the last seven years at Old Trafford, but the Spain international is yet to agree to terms which would keep him at the club for the next stage of his career.

There have been conflicting reports over whether De Gea intends to sign a new contract in the coming months, but it appears that United have moved to ease the ongoing speculation.

According to The Mirror, United have exercised the year-long option in De Gea's deal to leave the stopper with over 18 months remaining on his contract.

United needed to take such action ahead of the start of 2019, where De Gea would have been permitted to speak to foreign clubs ahead of a possible exit in the summer.
