Manchester United's ownership situation will reportedly not impact the club's attempts to sign Marcus Rashford to a new long-term deal.

The ownership situation at Manchester United will reportedly not impact the club's attempts to sign Marcus Rashford to a new long-term contract.

There is currently widespread speculation surrounding the future of the Red Devils, with the Glazers believed to be in discussions with interested parties over a sale.

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe are among those to have submitted offers for the 20-time English champions.

However, according to The Athletic, the uncertainty surrounding the ownership of Man United will not impact the club's contract talks with Rashford.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 24 goals and registering nine assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford has 14 goals and three assists in 24 Premier League appearances this season, while he has managed 10 goals and six assists in 12 outings in the Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.

Speaking before Man United's clash with Leicester City on Sunday, Man United boss Erik ten Hag detailed the importance of keeping the Englishman, who only has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2024.

"Of course [Rashford's new contract] is a priority," Ten Hag told Sky Sports News. "We are working on that, just sit and wait, but in the background we work hard. Of course [we have to keep him].

"I think the team is in a good place and Marcus is definitely in a good place. We are happy with his performances. He is in such good form. You can keep that if you keep the right energy and put the right investment in.

"Every game you have to take it as a new game. And you know at the moment that when Marcus comes into the position that he will score.

"When he is happy it gives him energy and a positive mood and then the goals will come. He has such great skills to score goals.

"I don't know [if he wasn't happy last season]. On the first day I met him, I told him 'I want to see your smile, I want to see your teeth and then it is OK'. We see it often and I think he is in a happy place and the whole dressing room is in a happy place and I think it is good."

Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with the forward last summer, while Arsenal and Bayern Munich are believed to be keeping a close eye on his contract situation at Old Trafford.

Rashford is believed to be keen to remain at Old Trafford, but there might have to be a compromise when it comes to his wage demands, with the attacker potentially looking to become the highest earner at the club.

The England international scored once and provided an assist in Man United's 2-2 draw with Barcelona in the first leg of their Europa League knockout round playoff last Thursday, and the two teams will lock horns for the reverse fixture in Manchester on Thursday.
