Rene Meulensteen: 'Manchester United should forget about Gareth Bale'

Rene Meulensteen believes that Manchester United should forget about trying to bring Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes that the club should forget about trying to tempt Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.

The Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with reports claiming that an offer of £50m plus David de Gea could be enough to force the La Liga outfit to sell.

However, Meulensteen says that United should turn their attentions away from the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

"I'm not sure Gareth Bale wants to leave Real Madrid yet," he told talkSPORT. "You can see it in his performances.

"It was a dream move for him to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and other world class players. He's very happy where he is and it would be very difficult to tempt him away."

United have reportedly slapped a £50m price tag on De Gea to fend off interest from Real.
