Manchester United's proposed move for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia is being held up due to a representation issue, according to a report.

Manchester United's proposed move for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia reportedly cannot currently be completed due to a representation issue.

The 20-time English champions have recently moved into pole position for the Netherlands international, who had, at one stage, appeared to be heading to French giants Lyon.

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen said earlier this week that the two clubs had reached an agreement for the transfer of the 22-year-old, with only personal terms needing to be agreed.

"The agreement is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell. If he says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent," Arnesen told 1908.nl.

Man United are said to have met with Malacia's agents on Wednesday, and Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan said on Thursday that the deal had now been completed.

"The deal is done, and yesterday he spoke about his own terms," Van der Kraan told De Telegraaf. "They were not so complicated because he already knew what he could earn at Lyon. Manchester United only had to go a little bit over that.

"I think he's going to have a great time there because it's obvious he's a boy who is really made for English football with his dynamism, fierceness, and physical strength despite not being that tall. He really is a top boy.

"You all know that if Manchester United are in the market and you are a footballer, then yes, you go there and not Lyon."

However, according to The Athletic, the deal has hit a stumbling block, as there is currently an issue surrounding the left-back's representation.

The report claims that the intermediary involved in the transfer has not been authorised to conduct the deal, with Malacia deciding against using well-known agent Ali Dursun, with his father heavily involved in the negotiations.

Dursun is involved in Frenkie de Jong's proposed move to Old Trafford, though, with the 20-time English champions looking to sign the midfielder from Barcelona.

The matter relating to the Malacia deal must allegedly be resolved before the move can be made official, with Man United now being forced to wait despite seemingly being on the verge of announcing his arrival.

Feyenoord will allegedly receive €15m (£12.9m) plus €2m (£1.7m) in add-ons should the deal go through, with new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag identifying him as a key target, having watched him closely during his time in charge of Ajax.

Malacia has scored four times and registered 10 assists in 136 appearances for Feyenoord in all competitions since debuting in 2017, winning the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield in the process.

Last term, the left-back made 50 appearances in all competitions during a busy season, contributing one goal and five assists.
