Viv Anderson: 'Only Mourinho could replace Ferguson'

Former Manchester United player Viv Anderson thinks that only a "big personality" will be able to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson

Former Manchester United defender Viv Anderson thinks that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is the only candidate worthy of taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils boss is celebrating 25 years of management with the Premier League side, and has insisted that he isn't considering retirement any time soon.

When the day does come to exit Old Trafford, Anderson believes that a "big personality" will be required in order to fill the Scot's shoes.

"I think it's got to be a big name," Anderson told talkSPORT. "It's got to be a big one with a personality.

"If you lose two games on the spin the supporters will be singing his [Sir Alex Ferguson's] name and this, that and the other.

"You've got to have a big personality and big shoulders to take that job on. I think Jose Mourinho is a really, really top manager. Whether he would come back to the Premier League, I don't know."

The Glaswegian has acquired 37 trophies with the North West club, and surpassed Liverpool's record 18 league titles last season.
