Louis van Gaal: 'James Wilson loan ideal for his development'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal feels that sending striker James Wilson out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion is the right decision for his development.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that he had the long-term picture in mind when deciding to allow James Wilson to join Brighton & Hove Albion on loan.

United lack options in attack, with Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial their only two recognised strikers, but Wilson has only been used twice in all competitions this season.

It is with that in mind that the 19-year-old has been given permission to move to Brighton, and Van Gaal feels that it is the best move for his development.

The Dutchman is quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: "I have not always chosen him in the selection and I think for him it's better to play at his age than sit on the bench or play in the second squad.

"In the short term, maybe it's not so good for Manchester United, but in the long term it's better. It is part of the development of a player.

"I can imagine that fans are thinking that is ridiculous they have difficulties to score, but that is a short term thought."

Wilson has been limited to six starts and 14 substitute appearances since making his first-team debut in May 2014.
