Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag hails his team for coming from behind to secure a point against Chelsea on Saturday night.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has lavished praise on his team for coming from behind to secure a point against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho's 87th-minute penalty appeared to be enough to secure all three points for the Blues, but Casemiro headed a leveller for Man United in the 94th minute, with the points being shared in a 1-1 draw.

Ten Hag has said that his side "dictated the game" against their London opponents but has accepted that a draw was "a fair result" at the end of the contest.

"I have to make a big compliment to my team. To fight back with a fourth game in 10 days, you see the spirit and how they deal with setbacks. Really good," Ten Hag told BBC Sport.

"First half [Marcus] Rashford had two big chances, Antony one against one. You have to score goals in such moments because in top games three chances is massive. You have to score.

"We dictated the game and I am happy with that. If you concede a goal late it is difficult. Eight minutes before half time we had some troubles but defence in the second half we didn't have troubles. The second half we didn't really create big chances, but also Chelsea didn't.

"I think it is a fair result. I would have been disappointed if we had gone without a point because we didn't deserve that. At the end of a tough week to come here, you bring the point home."

There was a huge negative for Man United at Stamford Bridge, though, with Raphael Varane being forced off on the hour with what appeared to be a serious injury.

The centre-back looked to damage his ankle and knee when stretching for the ball, and he was in tears when he left the field.

Ten Hag has admitted that he is currently unsure of the extent of the damage, with the defender likely to have a scan over the next 24 hours to find out what has occurred.

"It is difficult to say how it is now because it is so soon after the game. We have to wait 24 hours and then we will know what it is," he said.

The result has kept Man United in fifth position in the Premier League table, one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

The 20-time English champions are now unbeaten since the Manchester derby at the start of the month, winning four of their six matches since the 6-3 loss to Manchester City.

Ten Hag's side will now switch their attention to Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League before welcoming West Ham United to Old Trafford in the Premier League next weekend.
