Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Paul Pogba was left out of the squad for Saturday's clash with Burnley.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Paul Pogba was left out of the squad for Saturday's clash with Burnley due to concerns over the midfielder's fitness.

The France international recovered from an ankle problem to take part in United's two recent Premier League matches away to Watford and at home to Newcastle United.

The midfielder had been tipped to start at Burnley on Saturday night, but the 2018 World Cup winner was a notable absentee when the squad arrived ahead of kickoff.

Solskjaer has insisted that there is no issue when it comes to the 26-year-old, who could be in line to face Arsenal on New Year's Day, with his absence purely down to the volume of games.

"Paul has played in two games and has been out for a while and it didn't feel right to play him today," Solskjaer told MUTV ahead of kickoff at Turf Moor.

Scott McTominay's absence through injury has seen Nemanja Matic come in for a rare start in midfield.
