Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney reveals that manager Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged his side to break the Premier League points record this season.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has declared that his side will keep their foot on the accelerator this season in a bid to break the Premier League's record points tally.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side are 15 points clear at the top of the table and need a maximum of seven more points to be crowned champions.

Rooney has revealed that Ferguson has challenged the Red Devils to take maximum points from their last six games to beat Chelsea's record points haul of 95 set during the 2004-05 season.

After United's 2-0 win at Stoke City on Sunday, the 27-year-old told The Guardian: "We are in a great position, but we have to make sure we move on and push ourselves over that line.

"The manager told us [before Stoke] that the season started today and we've now got six to go, we have to go for all of them.

"If we win them all, we get a record in our pockets, so it's a good aim, a nice target for all of us to achieve."

United play their second away match in four days tomorrow night as they face West Ham United at Upton Park.
