David de Gea praises Manchester United fans

David de Gea hails the Manchester United fans for the level of support they that have given to him.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has thanked the club's fans for the support that they have shown him so far this season.

The Spaniard's name has been sung by the United faithful on numerous occasions, particularly during the 2-1 victory away at Sunderland, where he made a diving save to deny Emanuele Giaccherini.

When asked by Inside United about the level of support that he has received, the 23-year-old replied: "It's fantastic. I play for my teammates and I play for my manager but I also play for the fans. When you win over a club's fans, it's a very proud moment.

"These are the people who pay money to come to watch you every week. You owe it to them to play well and give your best, so it makes me extremely happy to hear the fans singing my name. Right from the beginning they've been very good. The fans I meet have always been encouraging and those in the stands have always sung my name. I can't tell you how good that feels."

De Gea joined United in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid.
