Manchester United and Portugal attacker Cristiano Ronaldo shoots down rumours of an imminent retirement amid speculation surrounding his long-term future.

Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has shot down talk of an imminent retirement ahead of Portugal's World Cup 2022 playoff final with North Macedonia.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner celebrated his 37th birthday last month but has registered a respectable 18 goals in 32 games across all tournaments for the Red Devils this term.

There have been suggestions that Ronaldo has struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League amid his advancing years, but the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus man does not see himself hanging up his boots anytime soon.

"Who will decide my future will be me. If I feel like playing more, I will. I'm the boss, end of story," Ronaldo told reporters at Portugal's pre-game press conference.

The attacker's deal with Manchester United is due to expire in the summer of 2023, but he has reportedly decided to remain at the club for another season.

Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes in Portugal's playoff semi-final win over Turkey and will aim to avoid going four games without a goal for the national team on Tuesday evening.
