Jonny Evans "disappointed" at United cup exit

Jonny Evans insists that Manchester United need to focus on their Premier League game against Aston Villa following the side's Carling Cup exit.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes that the Red Devils need to move on from their "disappointing" defeat to Crystal Palace in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup.

The 23-year-old, who captained Sir Alex Ferguson's side last night, thought that the Premier League champions would reach the semi-finals, rather than succumb to a 2-1 defeat against Palace at Old Trafford.

"We're very disappointed not to be in the semi-finals," Evans told MUTV. "I thought we would go on after we scored. And going into the first period of extra time, playing towards the Stretford End, I thought we'd have a chance of getting a goal and seal it from there.

"The games are coming thick and fast and the manager will need his squad. So we need to pick ourselves up and hopefully win on Saturday [at Aston Villa]. Before the game I was delighted to be given the [captain's] armband, but I'd happily take that away to have the victory instead."

Meanwhile, the semi-final clashes will be between Liverpool and Manchester City, and Cardiff City against Crystal Palace.
