Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw to be offered psychologist after injury?

Stricken Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has the use of a psychologist available to him should he need it following his horror injury at PSV, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly offered injured left-back Luke Shaw the use of a psychologist as he prepares for an arduous physical and mental road to recovery.

Shaw, 20, suffered a double leg break in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven, and has not yet left the Dutch city.

The England international underwent surgery on his right leg that night, and is scheduled to undergo a second operation on Friday.

Should it go smoothly, Shaw is expected to return home over the weekend but, with the physical treatment covered, United have also sought to help his mental state by offering to draft in a professional.

A club source told the Daily Star: "Part of the recovery process will involve the player dealing with his mental demons and the bad memories of what happened to him that night.

"A psychologist will be made available to him if needed, to talk him through it all and help his chances of being mentally ready to return to the game."

As a result of his layoff, the youngster is expected to miss the Three Lions' Euro 2016 campaign in France next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino, who worked with Shaw at Southampton prior to his £28m move to Old Trafford last summer, revealed that he was in 'tears' over his situation when he phoned him.
