David Moyes avoids Ashley Young criticism

Manchester United manager David Moyes avoids criticising winger Ashley Young amid reports that he dived during United's goalless draw with Real Sociedad.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has avoided criticising winger Ashley Young after the player was involved in a new dive row during his side's goalless draw with Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

Young went down under the challenge of Markel Bergara to earn his side a penalty, which was subsequently missed by striker Robin van Persie.

"I thought there were some strange decisions all night and that was another one of them," Moyes told reporters after the game.

"I have seen it again. The boy tugs him in the box. The referee is two yards away from it and decides to give it. He's got a penalty kick for a decision tonight. I don't know about his reputation but the referee is there and he gave it.

"The referee made decisions all night. He's the one who saw fit to award a penalty and send a player off. I thought the referee made the decision and that was the referee's choice."

However, former England midfielder Ray Wilkins branded Young's behaviour "pathetic" after the game.
