Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reportedly preparing to meet with Lionel Messi to offer the Argentine a lifetime contract at Camp Nou.
Messi's existing deal with the Catalan giants is due to expire at the end of June, and it had been thought that the Argentina international would seek pastures new this summer.
Manchester City have been strongly linked with the 33-year-old, but a recent report claimed that the Citizens are now expecting the attacker to sign a new deal with Barca.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta will soon meet with the South American to discuss a lifetime contract, although Messi will have to accept a salary reduction due to the financial issues caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in the four-time Champions League winner, who attempted to leave Camp Nou on a free transfer last summer.
Messi has scored 661 goals in 767 appearances for Barca in all competitions, including 27 strikes in 36 outings during the 2020-21 campaign.
