Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has hit out at UEFA by describing the European governing body as a "joke".
The former Premier League champions are being investigated after some of their fans were heard booing during the Champions League anthem.
The jeers, which are said to have derived from the fans' upset over Financial Fair Play sanctions and the ban issued to supporters for a game against CSKA Moscow last year, were heard prior to City's 2-1 win over Sevilla last month.
"It's a joke," Kompany told reporters. "We have played many games in Europe where there has been racial abuse and we have had to put up with it.
"And there have been times when we have been sanctioned in the same way as the team that was actually perpetrating those chants."
City will face Sevilla away in the Champions League on Tuesday.
