PFA chief Gordon Taylor confused by Kolo Toure hearing

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor describes Manchester City's decision to hold a hearing for Kolo Toure's failed drugs test as "strange".

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has admitted he is confused by Manchester City's decision to hold a disciplinary hearing regarding Kolo Toure's failed drugs test.

The Ivorian defender was suspended by the FA for six months after testing positive for a banned substance.

However, Toure has insisted on several occasions that the positive result was due to him taking his wife's slimming pills, unaware that they contained a banned substance.

"It just seems strange that after being welcomed back to the club, reinstated as captain for Carling Cup matches, that someone has come up with this hearing," said Taylor.

"It seems very strange against someone who is acknowledged by all concerned to be a top-class character."

The outcome of the hearing is expected to be revealed later this week.
