Manuel Pellegrini: 'We did enough to beat Aston Villa'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that his side deserved to beat Aston Villa after Sunday's goalless draw.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that his side feel unfortunate not to have taken all three points against Aston Villa on Sunday, suggesting that they did enough to win the match.

The league leaders were held to a goalless draw by the Premier League's bottom side at Villa Park despite the hosts failing to record a shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.

The Chilean boss admitted that he and his players were disappointed with their inability to turn a single point into all three as they look to keep the pace at the top of the table.

"We are disappointed with the draw," he told the club's official website. "We dominated and they had just one shot on our goal. We had three of four very clear chances to score and we did not, but we did enough to win.

"I think that Aston Villa defended very well. They had nine out of ten [players] often in their box. We tried to make a breakthrough. Two or three times we were very unlucky. I said before that it was going to be a difficult game. They have a new manager and a lot of motivation. They changed their system.

"We had clear chances, but did not take them and this happens in football."

Next up for City after the international break is a home clash with Liverpool on November 21.
