Manuel Pellegrini admits that a club of Manchester City's size must be challenging for trophies every season.

Incoming Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that a club of their size has to be challenging for Premier League titles.

Pellegrini is yet to be officially announced as City's new boss, but revealed earlier this week that a verbal agreement has been reached.

The former Real Madrid boss is yet to win a major trophy in Europe, but he realises the need for titles at City.

"My career has been all about sporting challenges," Pellegrini told The Mirror. "I have always tried to get my teams to play with a certain style.

"This time I know that the style I employ also comes with a need to deliver titles.

"Once you sign for a club like City or Bayern [Munich] or Chelsea or Real Madrid or Barcelona, it is clear that you have to fight for and win championships."

Manchester City are expected to make an official announcement about Manuel Pellegrini on Monday.
