Fabian Delph: 'Manchester City were too clumsy'

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph admits that the team were "too clumsy" in their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Fabian Delph has described Manchester City's performance in their defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League as "too clumsy".

Manuel Pellegrini's side were 3-0 down after just 32 minutes at the Etihad Stadium before going on to lose 4-1 to Jurgen Klopp's men.

The midfielder, who joined City from Aston Villa in the summer, told the club's website: "Fair play to Liverpool for the way they came out but we looked too clumsy. Obviously the new manager they've got has implemented a system to press high. We expected that and we knew what they were going to come with.

"We know we've got the capabilities to get back in the game, if not turn the game around. We were always confident we could do something in the second half but it wasn't our day and we've dropped points. We'll put this behind us and then look to answer in the next games."

The defeat results in City slipping to third in the table.
