Sergi Darder's Lyon move breaks down

Malaga general manager Vicente Casado says that Sergi Darder will not be joining Lyon this summer, despite reports that a deal had been agreed between all parties.

Malaga midfielder Sergi Darder will no longer be moving to Lyon this summer, according to the Spanish club's general manager Vicente Casado.

A recent report had claimed that the 21-year-old was close to making the move to Lyon, having rejected interest from Inter Milan earlier in the summer.

However, according to Casado, the midfielder will not be joining the Ligue 1 outfit and is instead expected to remain in La Liga.

"The player will not join Lyon. We're convinced that Sergi will soon be 100% committed to Malaga, both physically and emotionally, because he's a great professional and person," Casado has been quoted as telling AS.

"I don't want to discuss speculation as it's not worth denying anything. We finally find ourselves in a very exciting situation as a club, with the beautiful challenge of another season in the best league in the world."

Darder is contracted to Malaga until the summer of 2017.
