Malaga see off Deportivo La Coruna

Malaga cruise into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after a 4-1 win against Deportivo La Coruna in Thursday evening's clash at La Rosaleda.

Malaga have cruised into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after an emphatic 4-1 win against Deportivo La Coruna in Thursday evening's clash at La Rosaleda.

It took a while for the first half to get into gear, with fouls and tackles breaking up play in the early stages, though Cezary Wilk's shot from outside the box in the 12th minute was efficiently blocked by the home defence.

Four minutes later, the Polish midfielder sent a headed flick-on the way of Juan Carlos, whose subsequent effort soared high above the bar.

Malaga were arguably the better side in the first half as Roque Santa Cruz threatened on numerous occasions, but neither side could break the deadlock by the break.

The Paraguayan international went on to open the scoring six minutes after the restart when he burst into the Deportivo box and tucked the ball into the bottom corner past German Lux.

A further six minutes would elapse before the visitors were level, Helder Postiga latching onto Isaac Cuenca's ball before slotting home.

However, Malaga were back in front - both in the game and on aggregate - just two minutes later, with Recio sending his low shot into the Deportivo net.

In the 68th minute, Javi Gracia's charges killed off the game through Santa Cruz's second goal of the game, a thumping header past Lux.

Right at the death, a goal by Ignacio Camacho added the icing on the cake for Malaga, who won the tie 5-2 on aggregate.
