Pepe Reina "unlikely" to stay at Liverpool once Napoli loan finishes

Pepe Reina admits that he will probably secure a permanent exit from Liverpool in the summer.

Pepe Reina has revealed that he is "unlikely" to stay at Liverpool when his current loan deal with Serie A side Napoli finishes at the end of the season.

The Spain international joined Rafael Benitez's side after the Reds had signed Simon Mignolet, and Reina, 31, says that Brendan Rodgers's decision to find a new goalkeeper last summer showed that he was not wanted at Anfield.

"I've got to return to Liverpool, although it's unlikely I'll stay there. It was Liverpool who took the first step by not wanting me any more because they were placing their faith in a younger goalkeeper," Reina told The Express.

Reina joined Liverpool from Villarreal in 2005.
