Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson says that his team are not currently in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has said that his team are not currently in the title race ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with table-topping Manchester City.

The Reds suffered their second league defeat at Anfield in a row on Wednesday evening as they went down 1-0 to lowly Brighton & Hove Albion.

Jurgen Klopp's side are now fourth in the table, seven points behind leaders City, who have a game in hand.

The two teams will lock horns at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, but Robertson has admitted that the reigning champions are not in the mix for the title as things stand.

"Any game against Man City is a big one," Robertson told BBC Sport. "As this moment stands, we're not in the title race. We are seven points behind them and they have a game in hand.

"I'm sure they'd say the same if they were potentially 10 points behind. We need to get back to the Liverpool everyone knows. We're still a good team. We don't turn into a bad team overnight."

Klopp has also conceded that his side are currently not at the required level to defend their title.
