Swansea City reportedly line up Brighton and Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet as a potential successor to Brendan Rodgers.

Swansea City are reportedly lining up Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet as a potential successor to Brendan Rodgers.

The Welsh club, resigned to losing their coach to Liverpool, could face competition for Poyet from Aston Villa should their bid to land Paul Lambert fail.

Other candidates from the Swansea post include former Mallorca boss Michael Laudrup, Blackpool's Ian Holloway, and Birmingham City's Chris Hughton.

The Mirror quotes a "senior Swansea source" as saying: "The most important thing for the new manager is he will play the same style of football."

Swansea stand to gain around £5m in compensation from Liverpool for the three remaining years on Rodgers's contract.
