Luis Suarez: My Liverpool career was "spectacular"

Luis Suarez claims that he enjoyed three "spectacular years" at Anfield, after being awarded the Golden Shoe at an awards ceremony on Wednesday.

Luis Suarez has thanked Liverpool for three "spectacular years" at Anfield after receiving the Golden Shoe from club legend Kenny Dalglish.

Suarez plundered 31 goals for the Reds last season as they missed out on Premier League glory on the final day of the campaign, and his exploits were recognised at an awards ceremony on Wednesday evening alongside Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Dalglish, who helped sign the forward from Ajax in January 2011, presented his former player with the accolade, and Suarez was quick to point out how happy he was on Merseyside, prior to his £75m switch to Barcelona in July.


He said: "I want to thank all the most important people in my life, my wife and my children. And of course everyone at Liverpool – all my colleagues, not just last year but over the whole three-and-a-half years I was at the club.

"They were spectacular years and it was thanks to this man here (Dalglish) that they signed me, that they noticed me.

"At the beginning [of my Barcelona move] I suffered but now I feel very happy. Now I am moving on to a new period, and I have to enjoy this next stage of my life – it is a dream come true."

Suarez's ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup ends later this month, and the Uruguayan could make his debut against fierce domestic rivals Real Madrid.
