Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge insists that he is happy with playing a slightly deeper role under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has insisted that he is happy to play a slightly deeper role under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 29-year-old's Liverpool career has been marred by injury and hit a low point when he was forced to spend the latter half of last season on loan to West Bromwich Albion.

However, Sturridge has impressed so far this season, netting the opening goal in the Reds' 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain last month, and has said that he enjoys playing under the manager's new set-up.

"The position I'm playing now isn't the old position I was playing. In the past, I've been a number nine making runs behind, whereas now it's more a No.10 than it was," the striker said in a pre-match press conference.

"You're probably a little bit deeper and working hard. The runs you probably would have made in behind you are now doing in the midfield area, getting on the ball and things like that.

"We have wingers who make the runs in behind and they act as second strikers in effect, and the number nine is now kind of a nine-and-a-half or 10 more than a number nine. Your role is just different but I enjoy it. I've always felt I could play a position like that."

Sturridge will hope to continue his scoring streak when Liverpool face Napoli away in the Champions League tonight.
