James Milner: 'Victory in Merseyside derby would provide major lift'

Liverpool midfielder James Milner believes a win in the Merseyside derby would lift the mood surrounding the club following their underwhelming start to the season.

James Milner has revealed that a win in the Merseyside derby would provide a huge lift to everyone at Liverpool following their underwhelming start to the season.

The Reds are currently ninth in the Premier League due to their inconsistent form, which has seen them record one win in their last five matches.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is under pressure at the club, with reports suggesting that he could be sacked should his side lose at Goodison Park.

However, Milner is optimistic over the club's future and believes that a win over their rivals will kick-start their season.

He told Sky Sports News: "It can give the whole club a boost, lift us out of this run where things haven't quite been going for us.

"I think the performances have been improving over the last few weeks and a win in the derby would send everyone off to the international break with a good feeling, full of confidence."
