Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier backs Brendan Rodgers and his side to lift the Premier League title this season.

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has backed Brendan Rodgers and his side to lift the Premier League title this season.

The Anfield club go into their three remaining games of the campaign five points clear of Chelsea and seven ahead of Manchester City, with Manuel Pellegrini's side holding two games in hand.

"Yes, Brendan will win the title because he has three games and the team has got consistency and a lot of confidence about them," said Houllier, according to ITV.com.

"They go forward and will always score goals and they want it so badly that they will finish even stronger.

"I very much appreciate Brendan's philosophy and his management and I like the man as much as I like the manager - he is a tracksuit coach and this is what we like in France. Tactically, he is very astute."

Liverpool face Chelsea in a decisive showdown at Anfield on Sunday.
