Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture with Aston Villa.

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Aston Villa to Anfield.

The defending champions have won their last two top-flight fixtures, results which have moved the Merseyside giants to within three points of the top four.

However, ahead of a meeting against opponents who could move ahead of them in the coming weeks, Jurgen Klopp witnessed his team succumb to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the encounter with the West Midlands outfit.

Jordan Henderson

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

Henderson has been on the sidelines since the end of February due to a groin injury, and it is currently unclear when the England international will be available for selection once again.

Joel Matip

Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool revealed at the start of February that Matip will be out for the remainder of the season due to a serious ankle problem.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Gomez picked up a serious knee injury while away with England last November and has been on the sidelines since. The centre-back is making progress, but he is unlikely to play again this season.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool have been without Van Dijk since October due to a serious knee injury. The Netherlands international continues to make strides forward in his recovery, but it is unlikely that he will be able to figure for the first team before the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: April 10 (vs. Aston Villa)

Backup goalkeeper Kelleher has been absent from the substitutes' bench for recent matches because of an abdominal issue. While the Irishman is making progress, it is unclear whether he will be back in contention for this fixture.

Divock Origi

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscular
Possible return date: April 10 (vs. Aston Villa)

Origi was expected to make his return from a muscular problem against Arsenal last weekend, but the Belgium international has been missing from the last two squads. Should the attacker feature in the squad on Saturday, he will only be selected among the replacements.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for their next fixture.
