Preview: Lincoln City vs. Northampton Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Lincoln City and Northampton Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Northampton Town will head on their travels for Tuesday's League One meeting with Lincoln City at the LNER Stadium.

The Cobblers will enter the match in 17th position, while the Imps are currently sitting in eighth place in the League One table.

Lincoln are sitting just one point outside the playoffs after winning six, drawing three and losing three of their 12 league matches.

The Imps put together a seven-game unbeaten league run, before they recently slumped to consecutive defeats against Birmingham City and Crawley Town.

After being left disappointed with those two results, Lincoln showed great character to come from behind to clinch a narrow 2-1 victory in Saturday's home clash against Stockport County following goals from Ben House and Bailey Cadamarteri.

Lincoln will now look to produce another positive display as they attempt to claim consecutive home league wins for the first time since March.

The Imps have lost just one of their previous seven competitive matches against Northampton (W4, D2), but that solitary defeat did take place in last season's home clash in December 2023.

Northampton are six points adrift of Lincoln after winning four, drawing three and losing five of their 12 league matches this season.

While they may be sitting in the bottom half of the table, Northampton will carry some momentum into Tuesday's fixture courtesy of a three-game unbeaten league run.

The Cobblers bounced back from three consecutive league defeats to clinch a narrow home victory over Leyton Orient, before they salvaged a point from last Tuesday's away clash with Stockport County.

Northampton returned to Sixfields on Saturday to ease to a 3-0 win against struggling Crawley Town thanks to efforts from Tariqe Fosu and Mitch Pinnock as well as a Jay Williams own goal.

The Cobblers will look to claim consecutive league victories for the first time this season, but their hopes of securing maximum points on Tuesday may be tempered by the fact that they have won just one of their last 11 away league games (D4, L6).

Team News

The hosts are expected to be without Dylan Duffy, Jovon Makama, Tom Bayliss and Tyler Walker due to their respective injury issues.

Lincoln defender Adam Jackson is unlikely to feature after being forced to miss the last two matches through injury.

Ethan Erhahon was forced off in the first half against Stockport, and the midfielder will have to be assessed ahead of Tuesday's home clash.

As for the Cobblers, they are unable to call upon Ali Koiki and Patrick Brough due to muscle and leg injuries respectively.

Forward Callum Morton will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury in a 4-1 defeat to Wrexham earlier this month.

Jon Brady saw his team score three goals inside an hour on Saturday, and the Northampton boss could be tempted to stick with an unchanged lineup.

Lincoln City possible starting lineup:
Wickens; Montsma, O'Connor, Roughan; Darikwa, McGrandles, Hamilton, Jefferies, Hackett; House, Cadamarteri

Northampton Town possible starting lineup:
Burge; Odimayo, Baldwin, Guthrie, Guinness-Walker; Chouchane, Fox; Pinnock, McGeehan, Fosu; Roberts

We say: Lincoln City 1-1 Northampton Town

Northampton have restored some much-needed belief with a seven-point haul from their last three matches, and we think that they will do enough to hold Lincoln to a draw to make it four consecutive league matches without defeat.
